About us

The East Palatka VFD was founded in 1961 by a group of concerned citizens who saw a need for the service in the East Palatka area. EPVFD's zone of responsibility is from the south end of the Memorial Bridge, down to the north end of the Dunn's Creek Bridge. We also assist the City Of Palatka Fire Dept, and various other volunteer fire departments throughout Putnam County with mutual aid response to structure fires. We also frequently assist St. Johns County with mutual aid response. The department was entirely volunteer until 2006, when Putnam County Fire/EMS began staffing the station part time.

Currently, the station is manned Monday - Friday from 8 AM - 8 PM by 2 certified firefighter/EMT's. They are supplemented by volunteer firefighters who ride on the engine and respond to calls side-by-side with the career crew. After hours and on weekends, the department is entirely manned by an all-volunteer force. From handling medical emergencies, vehicle extrication, and firefighting, our volunteers are trained in a wide variety of emergency response.
